Ginger

Ginger (large)(blog)
Ginger oil is warm and soothing and I think best know for it’s ability to squash morning sickness, nausea, and motion sickness. To use it as a digestive aid you can take it internally, apply it topically or diffuse it. Because of it’s antiseptic and carminative properties (a preperation intended to either prevent formation of gas or expel it) it’s wonderful for treating food poisoning and intestinal infections. I highly recommend diffusing ginger when dealing with chronic or severe nausea.
Ginger is one of my favorite oils and i use it daily for it’s anti-inflammatory properties.  I was having inflammatory pain in one of my knees and was using one drop each of lemongrass and ginger oil topically on my knee. I was definitely feeling improvement in my pain but I was looking for no pain. I knew that I needed to fight the inflammation from the inside out. It was then that I began to add one drop each of lemongrass and ginger in a quart of water daily, and in 3 days I was nearly pain free. I would make 2 suggestions if you are interested in this protocol. If you have pain that is moderate to severe you may need more ginger and lemongrass. Also, if you don’t want to drink the essential oils in your water, add them to a gel cap.  If you don’t want to use oils internally then by all means use it topically with a carrier oil. I really think you will love the warmth that you will have with these oils. If you’d like to add some additional pain relief, use peppermint oil also.
If you are looking for a warm, spicy and energizing diffuser blend try blending ginger and grapefruit oil. You can also blend them to make a body spray!
Grapefruit Ginger Body Spray
1 cup water
2 T alcohol free witch hazel
5 drops Grapefruit Oil
2 drops Ginger Oil
1 drop Vetiver Oil
Mix together and put in a glass spray bottle. Shake well to combine and before using.

THE ESSENTIALS FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY

OOTM 2015-February
Cedarwood is a soothing and grounding oil, which may help you to relax and overcome stress. It is a mood elevator and can help with focus and mental clarity. It has a sedative property and may help with insomnia. Inhaling Cedarwood can induce the release of seratonin which is converted into melatonin in the brain. Diffusing Cedarwood or applying it to the bottoms of your feet may help with your rest. Try adding it to the diffuser with either Lavender or Frankincense oil.
Cedarwood is wonderful for oily skin and can help relieve itchy skin and inflammations. Make your own facial toner with about 10 drops of Cedarwood added to 1 ounce of alcohol free witch hazel.
Cedarwood is also beneficial for hair loss and can be used to treat alopecia areata. You can see the research here http://sparknaturals.blogspot.com/2015/01/research-alopecia-areata.html
If you are experiencing thinning hair try adding some Cedarwood to your shampoo bottle.
Cedarwood is a must have during cold and flu season! It’s an expectorant and can eliminate coughs and removes phlegm from the respiratory tracts and lungs. By stimulating the loosening of phlegm, you also protect your respiratory tract and overall health from toxins and conditions that excess phlegm can cause.  Blend it in a roller bottle with your favorite carrier oil and apply it to your chest and throat. It also gives relief from headaches and  red and watery eyes.
Here are a few diffuser blends using Cedarwood, enjoy!
Cedarwood Positivity blend:
2 drops Cedarwood

Essentials For Your Valentine

VD1

Lavender and Rose oil are great oils for your skin.  Yes, Rose oil is very expensive but a little goes a long way.  You can make a very simple serum for your face with 1 drop each of lavender and rose oil added to an ounce of your favorite carrier oil.  Add a little of your homemade serum to your face and neck daily.
Here’s a guide to choosing a carrier oil for your skincare:
Dry or Mature Skin: Hemp Seed Oil or Fractioned Coconut Oil
Oily and Blemish-Prone Skin: Grapeseed Oil or Hemp Seed Oil
Normal Skin: Sweet Almond Oil or Hemp Seed Oil
You will love the calming aromatherapy from all three of these products. They can all be used in your diffuser and lavender and rose oil would be lovely added to your bath. Remember a little goes a long way with the rose oil, simply inhaling it from the bottle can be extremely calming.  Rose Water is a one of my favorite products from Spark Naturals and it can be used in so many ways. It’s a very calming so not only will skin irritations be calmed but it can relax your mood. Spritz your face before or after you apply your makeup and use it as a body spray. Rose Water also makes a great linen spray, spritz your bedding, linens and use it to freshen your closet.

If you are a lover of essential oils you’ll know how very special these oils are and what a lovely collection this is.  These are four rare and expensive oils that Spark Naturals has taken great care in packaging. Each oil is a 5/8 dram (about 60 drops each) and the smaller size makes them more affordable for everyone. These oils are beautifully packaged in a glass jar with a ceramic lid which makes them great for gift giving.
Helichrysum, Melissa, Rose and Sandalwood are perfect oils to care for you skin.
HELICHRYSUM will help clear up marks from pox and heal scars. It’s a wonderful anti-inflammatory so it’s perfect for inflamed skin, eczema and dermatitis. It makes skin smooth, soft and helps it to retain moisture.
ROSE will also make scars, acne, stretch marks and surgery scars fade due to it’s antioxidant activity.
MELISSA is one of the best oils for cold sores, apply it to the area at the first sign of a cold sore by mixing 1 drop of Melissa to 4 drops of carrier oil. Reapply every couple hours.
SANDALWOOD is a good oil to blend with lotion or a carrier oil to help with eczema and re-moisturize the skin. It’s soothing to the skin relieving it from inflammation and irritation.

How do I use my essential oils?

So you’ve purchased your oils and are ready to enter into a new wellness for yourself and family. Essential oils can be used for preventative care and also used for illness. I’m a person who doesn’t care to go to the doctor at all. I love using essential oils to care for myself at home.
What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are the volatile liquids of the plant. They are obtained when any part of the plant is properly distilled. This may include the seeds, roots, bark, stems, leaves, fruit, branches and flowers!
EO1 EO2 EO3
Essential oils have been used for thousands of years are are mentioned in the bible hundreds of times. God gave Adam and Eve a Garden for them to live in, I believe that it was God’s intention for them to use the plants and herbs to heal and treat themselves. It is also my belief that without the healing plants and herbs that the time that they existed on the earth would of been short.
There are basically three ways to use Essential Oils
1.Topically- Oils that are used topically can be diluted with a carrier oil or applied NEAT (no carrier oil) Most of the oils that we use in our home are applied to the bottoms of our feet with roller bottles.
2.Inhaled- Oils can be diffused (follow manufacturers direction),placed on a cloth and inhaled or you can purchase inhalers here https://www.aromatools.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=inhalers&Submit=Search
We have a homemade inhaler that we use in our home and you can easily make yourself one. Take a clean jar, add 1-2 drops of oil to a piece of cotton and place in jar. We use the inhaler by slowly inhaling from the jar and blowing our breath back out into the jar. Your warm breath will actually “heat” the oil and create the aromatherapy.
Here’s a picture of our homemade inhaler. So easy a child can use it.

When purchasing your oils from http://sparknaturals.com/index.php/?id=525 you will see a description of each oil, possible uses, and application methods.  Some essential oils are not to be ingested.

Essential Oils in Cooking

I love cooking with fresh herbs! There’s only one problem, I don’t have a green thumb at all. I know because I’ve buried more plants than I’ve grown. I’ve tried inside herb gardens and have had some success, okay little success. Seems those inside gardens bring gnats faster than they produce herbs. And where I know that I can get rid of the gnats with essential oils why not just crack open a beautiful bottle of Spark Naturals essential oils. No need to kill another rosemary plant!
I love using essential oils in cooking and baking because of the savings. One package of fresh herbs are around $3 and a container of dried herbs can cost anywhere from $3-$12.  AND they expire! Fresh herbs…don’t stay fresh and dried herbs loose there flavor. Pure essential oils don’t go bad. What a wonderful investment for your spice rack!!
BASIL ($6.30)
Can be used in Italian recipes or anywhere basil is part of the recipe. We use it in our homemade meatball and spaghetti sauce recipe. It’s also delicious added to water, gives water a sweet licorice flavor.

Cute Toes For Summer

summertoes

Summer is near! Have you bought some cute new flip flops?

Or maybe  you are avoiding flip flops because of toe fungus..

I have a natural cure for it!

According to the Mayo Clinic Website the definition of nail fungus is:

“Nail fungus is a fungal infection in one or more of your nails. An infection with nail fungus may begin as a white or yellow spot under the tip of your fingernail or toenail. As the nail fungus spreads deeper into your nail, it may cause your nail to discolor, thicken and develop crumbling edges — an unsightly and potentially painful problem.”

If you have a mild to moderate issue use Lemongrass essential oil, apply 1-2 drops three times a day!

This will not fix it overnight, it may take several days to see a significant improvement. If you have a serious issue try a mix of Lemongrass, Melaleuca and Oregano essential oil. Protocol is the same apply 1-2 drops three times a day!

Dilute any of the EOs as needed ~ Especially if using Oregano. Mix with coconut oil, grapeseed oil or carrier oil of your choice.

For more difficult cases – Mix Lemongrass with Melaleuca and/or Oregano. Same procedure.

Also consider that there may be an underlying yeast or candida issue at hand that is causing the fungus in the first place.

Internal protocol is…

5 Drops Melaleuca
5 Drops Lemon
3 Drops Oregano

2x/day 10-14 Days

Rest 2 weeks then repeat

I suggest putting the oils into a veggie cap so that you don’t taste the oils.

Here is the link to purchase the veggie caps, its a great deal you receive 100 caps for just $3.49!
